5. Onchan
The village of Onchan is in the parish of Onchan which is at the north end of Douglas Bay. As far as settlements on the island of Man are concerned Onchan has the second largest population. Another name for the village is bridge end which is a translation of the name Kione Droghad in the Manx language. A 5,000-year-old Stone Age axe was found here in the 1890s in the Cassa Field by Onchan wetlands. Onchan is linked with St Connachan who was Bishop of Sodor and Man. This was in the year 540.
